Lead Cable

Hi guys....I found this post on Wire and Cable Dawgs website... Please read:

Lead exposure and cable splicers. Please contact me if you have any symptoms of lead exposure...we all worked with lead cables and no precautions were taken for years...some of us have started to experience medical problems at a young age. For example...knee replacements due to osteoarthritis, unexplainable numbness in hands/feet, hearing loss, memory problems, irritability, upper GI problems...I am just trying to see if any others are having problems like myself...any input us welcomed...when I was in the USAF I was not given any protective equipment to avoid lead exposure...I worked with lead sheath cables, lead sleeves, smelting of lead end plates, etc.

WELCOME ABOARD

If anybody can give me a clue to the whereabouts of these guys, I'd appreciate it. Frank Mattocks, Kary Hughes (in CA) or Les Powell...no clue...any info...help me!!

MIKE PURVIS

I was looking for Mike Purvis without any success and I came across his daughter's email address. This is her response...

Yes, I am his daughter. Unfortunately I must inform you that he passed away on January 25th, 1998. I know if he were still alive, he would definitely come to the reunion, as he always said that he loved Cheyenne, Wyoming and that it was a beautiful place. Good luck with the reunion.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Purvis family. He will be missed at our reunion.

ABOUT THIS MUSIC

I selected some songs from 'back in the day'. There's a media player at the bottom of the blog. You can click on any other song to listen to, while you browse around the blog.

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Well, I know some of you are asking yourself this...If we all get together in one place, what to we do after talking for a few hours? Where will we all stay? Anybody thought about BRANSON, MO?
The Branson/Lakes Area has welcomed weddings, group tours, reunions and small to mid-sized meetings for many years. The destination offers unmatched service, tremendous shows, attractions and outdoor recreational opportunities and an old-fashioned atmosphere that makes it a truly unique place for any kind of gathering.
No matter the type or size of your group, the Branson/Lakes Area has the service and facilities to help you create a memorable visit.
The Branson/Lakes Area has been recognized for the past five years as the number one motorcoach destination in the country by both the American Bus Association (ABA) and the National Tour Association (NTA). Branson has also been recognized by the ABA as the city that works hardest to accommodate group tours, and Ozark Mountain Christmas has been voted one of the top 100 events in the country.

This would be a great time and place to bring the grand kids along, too. There's plenty of family things to do in Branson.....

MUGG FAMILY

Here's a picture of Johnnie J. Mugg and his family from Cheyenne, Wyoming. L-R...Kim & Steve, Barbara & John, Kris & Lauren, and Jackson & Graysee. John has just had surgery for prostate cancer and is doing well. No chemo or radiation treatments at this time. He's even gone back to work at the Marshall services. Johnnie also retired from the Wyoming Air National Guard in 2000 as a CMSgt....Good job, John!

The General's Aide

Russ Eckenrod ended up working for General Curtis LeMay. I'm sure that was no easy task. Russ sent me a copy of the Special Orders transferring us from the 809th to the 90th Comm. Sq. It was full of names, ranks and serial numbers. It helped me find 6 Airmen today. Thank you, Russ!

And how I look as of last Summer (2008). Not skiing down here as the snow is just not that prevalent. So I wait for the warmer weather.

Hello 809th COMM

Hey Guys

Jerry has done a good job of finding us all. Let's keep the list growing, I have been in touch with several of you all and it was good to hear from you all again. I will not make this long or make it a brag letter of what I've been doing for the last the 41 years. Some of what I've done I've been proud of, some not so proud. But will post some things here and there and fill in the gaps, Would like to hear from you all, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Stan

GOOD MORNING

I hope everyone has survived this COLD weather. Memories of Cheyenne & Minot comes to mind. I had no snow but strong winds and 16 degrees here in north Texas, makes for a cold day. I'm getting closer to finding everybody on my list; shouldn't be much longer. Visit "our" blog often to keep up with what's going on and remember to VOTE for your reunion location. If you have already voted, you can go back and change your vote.

First Minuteman

2 QUESTIONS:
Which one of the SAC bases got the First Minuteman missile and what Flight was it installed at?

Click on First Minuteman to find the answers.

A Little Minuteman History

F. E. Warren Air Force Base initially had 200 Minuteman I missiles by mid 1963. These were all replaced by Minuteman IIIs by January 26, 1975 and 50 of them (flights P through T) were converted between 1986 and December 30 1988 to the only deployment of Peacekeeper missiles.
Peacekeepers were retired between October 2002 and September 2005. This leaves Warren with 150 Minuteman III missiles.
All of Warren's Minuteman III missiles were reduced from three warheads to a single warhead. This task was completed on August 6, 2001.
